Gaggio Montano
Walk accompanied by an archaeologist to discover the history of the area and the archaeological excavations underway in Santa Maria Villiana, where Fabio Resta's concert will be held. a multi-instrumentalist who has always been involved in traditional music, exploring the repertoire and performance practices of flutes, bagpipes and percussion instruments from the Near East (kaval and gajda in Macedonia, ney in Turkey) and the European Middle Ages.
An encounter between landscape, history and music: a musical journey that combines the beauty of archaeology with the charm of rare and ancient instruments presented by Fabio Resta. The protagonist will be the Emilian piva, a bagpipe from our region that had almost disappeared, rediscovered and brought back to life thanks to musical research. Alongside it, other bagpipes and traditional instruments, true “living artefacts” capable of bringing back atmospheres that belong to a distant time. A unique experience, where nature, memory and tradition intertwine in an exciting journey into the heart of history.
Description: ArcheoTrekking in the Gaggio Montano area, from Santa Maria Villiana to the summit of Monte della Croce. The trail winds its way through woods, paths and white roads, opening up in places with splendid views of the Marano torrent and the Reno Valley. Once we reach the summit at 917 metres, we will be able to see the white cross, the symbol of the mountain and, if the day is clear, we will be able to enjoy a 360° view that goes from the Corno alle Scale to the ridge of the Upper Reno, descending as far as the Bolognese plains. Just below the summit, archaeological excavations by the University of Bologna have brought to light inhabited structures, monumental fortifications and valuable finds dating back to the late Bronze Age (12th-11th centuries B.C.). These also include weapons, bronze ornaments, pottery, tools and amber beads, attesting to the site's centrality in the trans-Apennine routes. After a period of abandonment, the settlement was reoccupied in Etruscan times (4th-3rd centuries B.C.), before being definitively abandoned. A route of great natural, scenic and historical charm.
