Grizzana Morandi

A town in the Apennines, it stands on the ridge in a position that allows a view of the Reno and Setta valleys.

It is home to important tourist attractions such as the Giorgio Morandi house-museum, where the artist spent his summers, and the nearby haylofts of Campiaro with the "Giorgio Morandi" Documentation Centre and the archive of Count Cesare Mattei.

Not to be missed is a visit to the Rocchetta Mattei, a fascinating example of "esoteric" architecture, a maze of towers, monumental staircases and halls recalling different styles: from neo-Medieval to neo-Renaissance, from Moorish style to Art Nouveau.

The Church of S. Maria Assunta in Riola, designed by the famous Finnish architect Alvar Aalto, is also worth a visit. As well as the Medieval village of La Scola, in Vimignano.
