A town in the Apennines to the south-east of Bologna, it is located along the Futa road.
The area is set in a valuable environmental context, enhanced by the Park of Bolognese Chalks and Abbadessa Gullies (known for its spectacular chalk outcrops and karst phenomena) and numerous ancient religious buildings such as the church of Saint James the Greater (San Giacomo Maggiore) in Pianoro Vecchio, towers and villages that make a visit to the chief town of the municipality and surrounding hamlets a pleasant experience.
Also of interest is the Mount of the Ants (Monte delle formiche), where you can find the Shrine of S. Maria di Zena and enjoy a beautiful view, and the ancient village of Livergnano with its characteristic houses set deep into the rock.
