Monghidoro

Situated in the Apennines to the south-east of Bologna in an area of outstanding natural beauty, it offers various opportunities for walks and excursions to discover its natural beauty, the numerous religious buildings of historical and architectural interest and the charming rural complexes that dot the area.

In the chief town of the municipality, the church dedicated to  St Mary of the Assumption (Santa Maria Assunta), dating back to 1256, and the Olivetan cloister of the cistern (chiostro Olivetano della cisterna), part of a 16th-century monastery, are worth a visit.

Worthy of note is the small, ancient village of Sant'Andrea di Valle Savena, home to the church that bears the same name, built in the 14th century, which houses some 18th-century paintings of the Bolognese school.
